Man did it bloody hurt
Delighted to bring you another tale of a bollock lost on the rugby field, courtesy of All Blacks legend Wayne ‘Buck’ Shelford, who lost his testicle in the infamous “Battle of Nantes” game against France in 1986:
I got caught at a bottom of a ruck, and got booted right in the face and I lost three teeth on my right hand side so I just carried on, got on with the game.
Then about ten minutes into the second half, as I stood up Daniel [Dubroca] kicked me right in the nuts. Man did it bloody hurt.
And I thought nothing of it and I carried on playing. The All Black changing room was very very morbid, very quiet after a loss.
So I decided to get dressed. Stoop up, ripped me gear off, pulled my strides down and then one of the guys from across the room said ‘Holy shit, look at that’.
One of my testicles had been ripped right out of the scrotum and it was hanging between my legs.
I went upstairs to a medical room and got it all tidied up. These sort of things do happen and you’ve just got to play on.
Do you have to play on?
